GREENBAK's FRYING PAN - The Ritual:

Back to Home PageLast updated - 26 July, 2002

The Story behind the Ritual:

When Greenbak was with us he desperately wanted a magic item all of his own, but being a healer rather than a fighter he only had the frying pan. He had it master crafted ready to try and make it magic.

Anyway, one day, when he'd saved up all his pennies (which he had purloined from various different places) he decided to spend it on a ritual to try and make the pan magic. He spent a lot of time practicing with the Ritualists (the Company of Merchant Adventurers) and they all went into the ritual circle. They cooked a full English breakfast fry-up in the pan, carefully and with the best of skill, but were visited by the God of Hangovers, who was none too pleased to have been disturbed, having got one shocker of a hangover that very day. He still had his dressing gown and fluffy slippers on. I'm a little vague as to what happened next, but I know this God and Greenbak ended up having one almighty fight, frying pans at dawn.

The acrobatics went on for a while, then the God went back to bed to nurse his, by now, thunderous hangover and Greenbak and friends came out of the circle. They had failed on their mission to enchant the pan, apparently the ritual circle wasn't powerful enough.

The New Ritual

We chose to try and work towards enchanting Greenbak's frying pan to entice him to come visit us, I am sure he would leave the Nything and his contemplation of the meaning of the world if he knew about his pan. That is why Anima is carrying it about - just in case he comes for it, she doesn't want to miss him. If he doesn't come for it we shall know he needs the White Wolf (as the command group don't seem interested) to go and rescue his butt.

Within the Circle
Sharing Memories of Greenbak

We tell the Gods
Why we are here & call for protection

Anima tells the gods we want to
honour Greenbak and
 empower his frying pan.
(Yes folks, we were in a ritual for
a magic frying pan
(it's already mastercrafted)).

Teal recounts a tale of Greenbak
 he saw years ago.
Of a goblin who was paralysed
 and knocked over with
his finger up his nose.

The bucket in the middle
is to remind us of Greenbak
demanding a bucket of beer
from the gods.

Amaranth accepts
a portion of beer
in Greenbak's memory.

And recounts a tale of Greenbak,
armed with nothing but his healing
and his frying pan leading the forces
into battle from on top o
f a water stanchion.

Ogrek tells his tale.

Malice shares a sadder tale.

And a longer one....

But finally parts with his beer
(not like him).

And then we call
for sacrifices of power.

Frei adds power
from the fountain of life.

And we finally dip the pan
in the charged beer
and pronounce it cleansed.

The onlookers are suitably awed by this demonstration of power

and so ended the ritual to empower Greenbak's Frying Pan
now seen taken into war by Anima
